Jonathan Spencer

Jonathan's career to climate has been a squiggly one. After seven years managing infrastructure projects at Network Rail, he knew he wanted to do something that felt more connected to the world around him - he just wasn't sure what that looked like yet. The On Purpose programme was instrumental in helping him to figure that out, and build confidence to act on it.

Now, as Head of Operations and Development at Green New Deal Rising, he works with a team of people who genuinely believe things can be different. His role is mostly making sure the organisation has what it needs to do its work well, whether that's managing their finances, building systems, developing the team, or keeping the day-to-day running smoothly so others can focus on the climate movement.

He cares about climate justice because he thinks it's really a question about what kind of society we want - who gets protected, nobody gets left behind, and everyone getting a say. That's what keeps him motivated.
