Lucy O'Meara
Lucy joins On Purpose with over 20 years of experience as an academic in universities in the UK, Ireland and France. Most recently she worked at the University of Kent, where she specialised in managing doctoral research projects alongside her work as a teacher and researcher; she was Management Board member of an Arts and Humanities Research Council doctoral training funding partnership. Lucy has broad experience in managing projects, grant writing, evaluation, publishing and communications. Prior to joining On Purpose she was General Editor of a major scholarly journal and a freelance literary editor. She has been Trustee of charities including the Modern Humanities Research Association. She joined On Purpose to learn how to best use her skills and enthusiasm to help address the climate crisis and the social issues that underlie and exacerbate it. She?s excited to have the opportunity to develop her experience within the social impact sector. Passionate about sustainability, Lucy has a particular interest in the benefits of active travel: since 2018, she has volunteered for Sustrans, the charity making it easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle. She is also a member of Spokes East Kent Cycle Campaign and Cycling UK. Lucy has authored a range of scholarly books and articles and writes and presents cultural history pieces for BBC Radio 3. She holds a PhD in French Studies from the University of Nottingham and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. She speaks French and German. In her spare time, she loves slow travel, reading, cooking, singing in choirs, and year-round sea-swimming.
