Maddy Willson
Maddy brings five years of experience in the UK civil service, with diverse roles in space policy, net zero strategy, and reducing homelessness among prison leavers. She managed a £250 million investment package for the UK Earth Observation sector, ensuring its stability during the transition from the EU Copernicus programme. Her policy skills were crucial in the national rollout of the Housing Specialists programme, which placed a housing expert in every UK prison to improve housing outcomes for prison leavers. These varied roles have equipped her with a unique blend of skills in policy, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning. With an academic background in anthropology from Durham University, Maddy is passionate about understanding human behaviour and using these insights to shape policy for meaningful change. This human-centric approach has enabled her to develop innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of different communities. Maddy excels in problem-solving and collaboration. She is a creative, strategic, and empathetic leader known for developing lasting, positive relationships. By promoting a warm, team-friendly atmosphere, Maddy fosters an environment where teams thrive and find creative solutions to complex problems. Maddy joins the On Purpose programme to cultivate her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in dynamic environments while continuing to make a meaningful impact on social and environmental issues. She is particularly interested in the circular economy and sustainability in the arts. Outside of work, Maddy is committed to equality of opportunity for all. She volunteers with Crisis, a homelessness charity, and Breadwinners, a programme that supports refugees through employment opportunities. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, life drawing, and being in nature, especially if it involves bike-packing and wild swimming.
